Water Work

During 2004 and 2005 Denise Bryan and Adrian Wilkins (sound artist) travelled along the Silk Road.

The artists became increasingly aware of the amount of bottled water they consumed and how this highlighted several issues: pollution, lack of clean drinking water and the domination of large multinational companies. For the rest of the journey Bryan collected these labels which were used to create sculptural works.

The sculptures have multiple narratives, addressing the issues mentioned above as well as telling the story of the artists’ journey. The combination of labels and aluminium create colourful and elegant forms. The artist explored the possibilities of projecting video onto the reflective surfaces of the works.
